On the sidelines of the conference IAHA (International Association of Historians of Asia) to-22 in Solo 2 to 6 July 2012, the participants had the opportunity to visit Danar Hadi Batik Museum.
Danar Hadi Batik Museum is located at Jalan Slamet Riyadi 261 Solo. The museum is actually a private museum. In other words can also be called 'private museum'. The owner is H. Santosa Doellah, trademark holders Danar Hadi batik.

I know the brand Danar Hadi since childhood because Danar Hadi has outlets located at Jalan Raden Saleh IA Jakarta. When I visited the house of the grandparents are not far from the outlets, it must pass through.

Hadi Danar museum was inaugurated by Megawati Sukarnoputri on October 20, 2000 under the name "Gallery of Ancient Danar Hadi Batik". Today changed its name to "Museum Danar Hadi"

Various fabrics were displayed separately. Adjusted according to the arrangement of its kind. There is a Dutch Batik, Batik Chinese, Javanese Batik Hakokai, Indramayu Batik, Batik Sembagi, Nitik Batik, Batik Jambi, Batik Keraton, Bati Saudagaran, Batik Farmers. Year of manufacture batik ancient ranged from 1840 to 1910.

Enjoy a variety of batik fabric collection at the museum, as 'read' history in the form of artifacts that may not be found elsewhere. Lucky batik collection is neatly arranged in the country. So in Indonesia batik lovers need not bother visiting overseas.

Besides being able to enjoy a collection of batik cloth, visitors can see the process of making batik and batik cloth must buy as a souvenir. Just as Professor Leonard Andaya from the University of Hawai'i IAHA conference participant who I see also bought batik shirt.

As a museum (though privately managed), Batik museum is not to be missed if you visit Solo.

A guide with a friendly greeting and then accompany the 1.5 hour tour exploring the museum. The first gallery space contains a collection of Dutch Batik sarongs are largely shaped by the dominance of florals, foliage, animals, especially birds and butterflies. Dutch batik generally appear with bright colors such as red, green, orange, and pink. On the walls displayed photographs of Dutch people are wearing batik cloth.

The second gallery space is filled with a collection of Batik Kraton, the Kraton Surakarta well, Mangkunegaran, Yogyakarta, and Pakualaman. The fourth motif of this palace is almost the same, only modification motifs and how to use it differently. There is also a collection called Three Foreign Batik. Batik that uses three colors: red, blue, and brown is apparently made in three different places. Giving is done in red color Lasem, blue in Pekalongan, while the brown color in Solo. That's why this type of batik is called Batik Three State.

Another collection that can be enjoyed is the Chinese Batik, Batik Jawa Hokokai (batik influenced by Japanese culture), Coastal Batik (Holy, Lasem, Pekalongan), Sumatra Batik, Batik Saudagaran, Farmers Batik, Batik Contemporary, and many other types of batik. One of interest is the Batik Cirebon. In addition to the influence of China, it has a kind of batik motifs that exhibit wing Hindu cultural influence of the Ancient Mataram Kingdom.

Not to be missed is the museum's special collections. There are several collections of ancient batik with unique motifs inspired by folklore or legend. One of them is Snow White motif. Batik is created with a motif pictures tells the story of Snow White. The story begins when Snow White's stepmother told by a magic mirror that Snow White is the most beautiful woman in their country. This makes the step-mother angry and throw it into the woods. The images continue the life Snow White in the woods with seven dwarfs, a poisoned apple eating, until the encounter with the prince awakened from a long sleep. Batik Snow White are included in this type are designed by Dutch Batik Indo-Dutch women in the mid 19th century. Even so, the process is still done by the people of Indonesia. In addition there are some batik which tells the story of Hans and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, and even the Diponegoro War stories.

YogYES tour guide then took to the back of the museum. Atmosphere was immediate contrast. Elegance changing exhibition space with a dynamic atmosphere of the factory. In the large open-plan space that hundreds of people busy doing batik making process from start to finish. When you want to learn the techniques of making this more deeply, the museum also offers workshops package batik making one color for 5 days.

Satisfied with the collection of antique batiks and watch elaborate batik making process, then the eyes are pampered by beautiful batik collection in a variety of products. Official shirts, beautiful dresses, to pillowcases and various other products can be purchased here. Batik Museum Danarhadi with the concept of One Stop Shopping Batik is truly a tourist paradise for lovers of batik, both locally and internationally.
